About SynMax, Inc.

SynMax delivers actionable geospatial intelligence for the maritime and energy sectors, transforming satellite imagery, machine learning, and advanced analytics into real-time insights for confident, strategic decision-making.

Our Mission

SynMax exists to replace guesswork with ground truth. We build intelligence systems that turn raw, unconventional data, satellite imagery, sensor signals, and advanced analytics, into verified, decision-ready insight for the professionals who need it most.

Our Vision

A world where the most consequential markets operate on verified information, not assumptions. Where what is reported matches what is real. Where decision-makers in energy, maritime, defense, and finance can act with confidence because their intelligence is built on proof.

About the role

SynMax is seeking a Geospatial Intelligence Analyst to join the Theia Intel team, supporting maritime domain awareness, multi-INT analysis, and GIS-based intelligence production for defense and government clients. This is a hybrid role based in the Washington, D.C. area, with in-office presence required once a week.

What you’ll do

Maritime Domain Awareness

  • Perform AIS fusion analysis, dark vessel detection, and AIS spoofing/subtype identification to uncover vessels attempting to mask their location or identity
  • Track vessels of interest (VOIs) across a range of mission sets, including piracy, sanctions evasion, and naval blockade-line crossings
  • Monitor crude oil export activity and tanker fleet movements (e.g., loadings at key export terminals, national tanker fleet tracking) by cross-referencing AIS data with satellite imagery
  • Support regional maritime surveillance taskings, AOI monitoring, shipyard and naval activity
  • Respond to ad hoc imagery and analysis requests from media and government clients on vessels, port activity, and maritime incidents of interest
  • Produce maritime intelligence products fusing AIS, SAR, EO/IR, and open-source data to characterize vessel behavior and anomalies

OSINT & Multi-INT Research

  • Conduct open-source research to corroborate and enrich geospatial findings (vessel ownership, shipyard activity, regional maritime events)
  • Evaluate and correlate multi-source imagery (SAR, EO/IR, hyperspectral, LiDAR) for analytic applications
  • Assess emerging commercial imagery/sensor providers for operational fit
  • Produce imagery-derived intelligence products, including training and reference artifacts

GIS & Technical Analysis

  • Perform terrain analysis (DEM-based route/accessibility classification) using ArcGIS Pro notebooks
  • Conduct land use/land cover (LULC) classification using multispectral satellite imagery (e.g., Sentinel-2)
  • Build and maintain AOI geometries (GeoJSON) and clean EEZ boundary topology
  • Build and manage geospatial datasets and databases
  • Work across ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise environments

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of geospatial intelligence, GEOINT, or GIS analysis experience; DoD/IC experience strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of OSINT research methods and tools
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and PostGIS/PostgreSQL
  • Experience with multi-source imagery analysis (SAR, EO/IR, hyperspectral, LiDAR)
  • Security clearance eligibility (active clearance a plus)

Nice to have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geographic Information Science, Geography, or related field
  • GISP certification
  • NGA GEOINT Professional Certifications
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Space Force TacSRT (Tactical Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Tracking) program
